April is Safe Digging Month

Governor Doug Burgum has declared April as Safe Digging Month in North Dakota.  The proclamation emphasizes the importance of filing an excavation notice with the ND One Call system before beginning excavation on any project ? commercial or residential.  “It just takes a few minutes to file a locate request to ensure no one gets hurt or there is a loss of service due to uninformed digging,” said ND One Call Director of Education/PR Ryan Schmaltz.  More Information on the ND One Call system is available on the WEBSITE or by contacting the Board Excavator Representative Carey BurkeVIEW Proclamation.

CSF Classes Receive Positive Reviews

A huge AGC of ND SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to our new Construction Supervision Fundamentals instructor Bob Sween.  Bob took over the podium this year from retiring teacher Brad Ballweber and received rave reviews.  In answer to the question, “What did we do right?” attendees said:

 

“One of the best classes I’ve attended over my 15 years in the industry. Thank you, Bob, for your time and information.”

“Good overview of construction management side of things. I work in a different section but feel that knowledge of what our crews are up against will help for me to better facilitate.”

Classes are complete for 2024 - watch for 2025 dates and registration information this fall.

Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute Seeks Award Nominees

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) at North Dakota State University is seeking nominees for its annual awards which honor individuals who have made a significant contribution to transportation in the region.

“Our list of previous award winners is a distinguished list of individuals who have improved the quality of life, economic vitality, and connectivity to the rest of the world for residents of our region,” UGPTI Director Denver Tolliver noted. “It is our hope that our awards not only recognize current leaders but inspire the future leaders in the transportation industry.”

Descriptions of the award criteria, lists of previous award winners, and an online nomination form can be found at www.ugpti.org/awards/.  Nominations are due by May 6.

AGC of ND Education Foundation Scholarships Available

Applications are now being accepted for scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year.  Eligible applicants include high school seniors through upper-level college students.  If you know someone attending BSC, NDSCS, U Mary, NDSU, UND, or MSU Moorhead in any construction-related fields of study, encourage them to apply at www.agcnd.org/scholarships.

NDSU CME Assistant Professor of Practice

NDSU is now taking applications for a new Assistant Professor of Practice for Construction Management & Engineering courses. With enough experience, only a bachelor’s degree is required for this full-time professor position.
